Discus thrower Samantha Hall makes her World Athletics Championships debut today. Staff Reporter Daniel Wheeler had a question-and-answer session with her.

Daniel Wheeler: What songs are on your playlist and what’s your favourite?

Samantha Hall: Mostly songs from Imagine Dragons because they are motivating, for me.

DW: Do you have a word or a mantra that you say to yourself when you’re competing?

SH: I always tell myself to go out there and do my best?

DW: How long have you been dreaming about making it to the World Championships and what is it like to make the team?

SH: It’s been years I have been dreaming about it. This year it has been about [World Athletics] points, so I tried to get in as many meets as possible to get here.

DW: Who is your favourite sports hero?

SH: I don’t have one.

DW: What do you do to calm your butterflies when you compete?

SH: I hum my favourite song. Anything from Imagine Dragons.
